Hayes cricket club has just come out
of the downward spiral that we seemed to have been in for 4 to 5 years on the
pitch and 6 to 7 years in the organizing and running of the club. We have a
new committee headed by two long standing members and a number of other
members new and old. The clubhouse has been decorated and smartened up to
look better than I can ever remember in my 38 years at Hayes CC and the
social calendar is working better than ever to ensure that we continue to
move upwards at this alarming rate. We have 8 darts teams playing out of
Hayes this summer and winter, 3 ladies and 5 mixed, covering Mondays to
Thursdays. Sporting events will be showed all year long with many quiz
nights, disco’s, evening meals, live bands, fireworks, etc, etc. The cricket
isn’t of our old glory days standard but it is being enjoyed by all those who
are playing, if we can attract enough players to once again run a second X1 I
know we will be back towards the top in the future. The money that we are now
making is being put straight back into the facilities of the clubhouse and
the ground. We have 6 projects that are being started now in order of
importance, The Cricket Square is being all but re-laid, the outfield will be
severely harrowed, re-soiled where necessary and rolled properly, the practice
net area that was so badly vandalised is to be cut down and turned
back into top class facilities, the burnt out score box will again be
renovated to be the main attraction whilst cricket is being played, the
changing rooms are to be decorated and the shower area is to be re-tiled and
re-fitted with powerful pump’s and heads. All this is being completed for the
2003 season, by which time I hope to announce that we have more than the 20
current, playing members and a second X1 captain who will be playing with his
team that year. We will be able to offer these facilities to persuade our
better players to come back and lots of new players to join and share in
these exiting times for Hayes Cricket Club. |
